I am reading William Goldman’s Adventures in the Screen Trade again. It’s colloquial and wise and his wife’s name is Ilene, so there’s much going on there that I could get sentimental about. Goldman wrote Harper, one of my favorite films, a little piece of origami so perfectly crafted it nearly flutters. The female star of Harper (not counting Lauren Bacall, natch) is Pamela Tiffin, who is special for myriad reasons. I am also reading quite a bit about the late Clay Felker, mind behind New York Magazine among other things. Felker and Tiffin were married until they weren’t. The universe is tiny. And indifferent.
